Palm, olive and banana trees have always sparked the imagination. With the growing popularity of backyard swimming pools, they create the perfect decor for this new area in the home.
Here, we have presented some of the most attractive and frost-resistant varieties.

Chamærops excelsa or Trachycarpus fortunei (Chinese Windmill Palm) is the most common palm in our region. Well-suited to grouping and very hardy.
Withstands freezes to -20°C.

Chamærops humilis (Dwarf Fan Palm) is slow growing but can reach a height of 4 metres. Its shrub-like habit grows from multiple trunks.
Withstands freezes to -16°C.

Butia capitata has shown excellent frost resistance in recent years. A very pretty palm with bluish-tinted fronds and a thick trunk. Medium growth rate.
Withstands freezes to -15°C.

Phœnix canariensis is the most widely-known palm, with its pineapple-husk trunk and deep green fronds.
Withstands freezes to -12°C.
Brahea armata or Erythea armata. A palm with distinctive steel blue fronds and a thick trunk. Slow growing.
Withstands freezes to -14°C.
Washingtonia filifera has large, light green fronds and a thick trunk. Fast growing.

Cordyline or Dracæna australis forms one or more trunks topped with a mass of thin green leaves. Fast-growing.

Cycas revolute is botanically closer to the fern family. This lovely plant can be potted or grown in the ground with frost protection.

Phormium (New Zealand Flax) comes in many varieties with mature heights ranging from 0.5 metre to 2 metres. Its long, narrow leaves commence at the ground, in colours which vary from one variety to another.

Yucca is of the same type as phormium, with green or marbled leaves depending on the variety. The hardiest species are Yucca filamentosa, Yucca gloriosa and Yucca aloifolia.

Dasylirion is a desert plant, but adapts quite well to our climate.

Musa basjoo
Musa basjoo is a hardy banana tree. The banana variety found in southwest France.
Strain that withstands freezes to -18°C.

Arundo donax variegata, the variegated cane of Provence, is a pretty herbaceous plant which produces a large tuft of green and white leaves 2.5 metres tall.

Hibiscus moscheutos (Rose mallow) produces surprisingly large flowers (measuring 20 cm + in diameter) in July and August.

Fatsia japonica. Very exotic bright green foliage.

We offer a selection of plants in this group. Most cactus varieties cannot survive the winter in our climate, but they are often used for seasonal decoration in summer.
The hardiest species include Agave americana Variegata, and Opuntia (Barbary Fig).
